Calvin L. Adams, Jr. Citrus County Sheriff Candidate
After deliberating with family, friends, and fellow Citrus County Citizens, I, with the support of my wife, have made the decision to file for candidacy for the position of sheriff in Citrus County.
I am a hometown candidate. My parents moved to Inverness when I was less than one month old, and I graduated from Crystal River High School in 1982. I currently reside in the Crystal River area.
My public safety / law enforcement career began when I took the oath as a certified Florida law enforcement officer in 1985 after graduating from the Florida Marine Patrol Academy. My experience spans 37 years, and throughout all 67 counties of the great state of Florida. My responsibility grew from patrol officer to leading sworn and non-sworn employees, side by side, in the trenches, from Pensacola to the Straits of Florida and everywhere in between. After retiring, I attended and graduated from Florida Firefighter 1 school and am currently serving as a volunteer firefighter and Assistant Fire Chief for the city of Crystal River.
My practical work experience includes,
- Law Enforcement:
Officer- patrol; Sergeant- criminal investigations; Lieutenant-first line supervisor; Captain- mid-level manager; Major- section leader; Lieutenant Colonel- deputy director; Colonel- director. Commissioner – Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA)
- Fire Services: Support, Firefighter I, Assistant Fire Chief.
My personal beliefs, connection with and affection for the well-being of Citrus County, along with my decades of public safety law enforcement experience and expertise will assist me in providing: a transparent, cooperative, proactive, proficient, and cohesive style of leadership. Delivering peace and safety to the citizens of Citrus County and our visitors, today and in the future.
I am a fifth generation Floridian, who is deeply rooted, devoted, and committed to this community. I am committed to this endeavor, not as a job opportunity, but as a necessary mission to serve and ensure the safety of our Citrus County residents and visitors.

No Nonsense Leader
I worked for and with Colonel Calvin Adams for several years with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC). I found him to be a man of integrity, knowledgeable, and the best law enforcement administrator that I ever worked for. He was a no nonsense leader that knew how to get things done. He was stern when he needed to be but also had a compassionate side that only good leaders possess. Calvin Adams would make an excellent sheriff and one that the citizens of Citrus County would be fortunate to have.
